Workato is at the high end when it comes to price, sophisticated features and the governance that this platform is built to adhere to. If you are an enterprise using SAP, Salesforce, Workday, and ServiceNow and have deep data-compliance requirements beyond what Make or Zapier can do at scale, Workato is what your IT team will go to. Workato's term for workflows is 'recipes', and these recipes come complete with error handling, conditional logic, real-time monitoring and multi-tier approval chains, which are the 'norm, not exception'. Workato AI extends this with the capability of being able to add AI steps to the enterprise integration recipes that will enable teams to create automations with plain language without the hard coding or manual steps typically associated with standard recipes. Then there is Workato Embedded – a way for SaaS companies to offer natively built integrations with Workato's infrastructure. The Copilot tool, within Workato, automates the creation of automations by translating plain English directives into recipes, reducing the technical ceiling when building any new recipe. One criticism: price. IPaaS for enterprises like Workato and Tray.io is at a minimum ($25,000 a year) and will often cost into the six figures depending on your level of automation. And since they utilise a task-consumption model in which a simple five-minute automation could cost hundreds of thousands of tasks per month, it is something that needs to be analysed carefully before purchasing. Ultimately, if you are part of a larger organisation and have IT governance to enforce a variety of complex systems you're integrating with and the dollars to back that up, Workato is an impressive and solid platform that's well-supported.
