Udio is churning out some of the cleanest AI audio available on the market – the distinction between instruments, clarity of voice, and the level of the mix are generally beyond any of the competitors. Those characteristics led some significant labels to get upset, and this year, a resolution was announced, with Universal Music Group and Udio striking an October 2025 deal in which they would jointly develop a licensed music platform, which, I imagine, was a surprising result for most when a lawsuit was impending. As it happens, and it must be stated for full clarity, Udio’s ability to download has been temporarily taken down since October 2025 as the joint platform is being developed, though it is set to get a rework later in 2026 to incorporate full UMG licensing.
In the interim, if downloaded files are a must-have right now, use Suno or Soundraw.
Otherwise, Udio is one to track; its audio and true UMG licensing framework stand to make it – perhaps – the most justifiable AI music platform in its league. Standard plans for Udio started at $10 a month for 2,400 credits prior to these developments. You can learn more at udio.com.
