When you start to explore this category, Sassbook will be the easiest starting point you'll find. There's no Codex to create, no API key to set up, and no corkboard to add cards before you begin to write. You just select the genre (classic fiction, sci-fi, romance, thriller, humor, or original), type your opening sentences, and the AI picks it up from there. The sheer ease is genuinely fun for a certain type of user: somebody who would just like to see where an idea goes, but doesn't quite want to commit to the infrastructure needed for a "real" writing application. The genre intelligence is there—what you get back for a thriller is obviously different tonally than what the AI gives you for romance, which implies that they've fine-tuned the model to individual genres. It has an AI headline generator to let you come up with names for your chapters and stories, based on a synopsis. And having it fill in the sentences that follow your own, as opposed to generating whole sections of story, allows you to maintain more agency than truly autonomous creative generators provide. Sassbook's major limitation—and you should bear this in mind—is its depth. There's no long-term story memory, no character management from one manuscript to the next, and no long-form planning tools to speak of. The focus is purely on experimentation and idea-generation, not managing large, sustained writing projects. Premium tier will set you back $32.50/month - a bit of a premium compared to tools that are much simpler but offer comparable, and sometimes better features. The freemium plan is generally the best way to start here. For anybody who wants pure, uncomplicated creative play and doesn't want to spend time setting up writing tools, Sassbook does a great job at getting there.
