Remini isn't technically an avatar creator, and that's a really important fact to establish before making judgements. Whereas apps like Lensa and Aragon generate new AI images of you, Remini reconstructs and enhances images you already have. That could be anything from poorly scanned family photographs taken in the 1980s to low-resolution phone camera pictures or dark, noisy photographs from an older digital camera. Remini takes those, runs them through an AI algorithm, and reconstructs detail sharpness and facial definition in a way that was previously unimaginable with conventional photo editing software. I was particularly blown away by the face restoration tool: give it a blurry or pixelated photo with a person's face out of focus, and you'll get a recognisable person back whose face now has detail and texture that rivals an original shot with far more resolution than it actually had. Remini also built a suite of portrait retouching tools and even an AI headshot generator recently. You can submit a selfie and will receive a range of different professional portraits as well as restored versions. While the app has a limited number of free uses per day, the full suite of tools is available for a subscription from $4.99 to $9.99 per month. If there's one weakness to acknowledge, it's that the best reconstruction results occur when there's enough information in the image to begin with and extremely blurry or obscured images will still yield less convincing results. That said, for anyone with a trove of old family photographs to salvage or someone who frequently works with low-quality images Reminiscing is one of the most practical image applications available today.
