Worth knowing upfront: Podcastle has rebranded as Async, and podcastle.ai now redirects to async.com. Async's site currently leads with AI video editing, so check async.com to confirm which of the podcast recording, voice cloning and audio enhancement features and plans described below are still offered. There's a certain sigh of relief when you finish a recording, and the waveform looks decent to begin with. Podcastle automates that process for podcasters; it injects that feeling of relief into the recording process itself instead of making it a separate step in post-production. The most common feature users first notice with Podcastle is their Magic Dust. Magic Dust is applied to your recording on automatic – it cleans up ambient noise, improves the clarity of your voice, and otherwise does exactly what's needed to make your audio sound better, all without you having to intervene on settings or configurations. It's not nearly as robust as other professional applications such as iZotope RX, and you also lose out on control/adjustability, but for the people it serves – podcasters who just want to get an episode produced without thinking about audio engineering – it works extremely well at what it's designed to do. Because the improvement happens in the recording process itself, when you're in the editing stage, the audio has already been improved. This is unlike an improvement that requires you to record, export, and import the recording into your audio editor and then process it, which adds hours over the month, in turn cutting productivity time – save an obvious amount of hours month on month. To be fair, for me, audio enhancement is slightly below. Adobe Podcast Enhance and Descript Studio Sound in terms of overall audio enhancement quality in benchmark tests. I found it 'solid' at best, not 'exceptional', but for podcast editors who want AI audio improvement with their recording workflow inside of Podcastle, they absolutely can achieve that without the use of a separate application or by creating additional steps.
