Pictory centers on a single problem: you’ve got text that would be dramatically stronger as a video but zero inclination to spend two hours a pop inside an editor. Paste the link of anything (or use a transcript or a doc), and Pictory “extracts” the important bits, identifies the relevant pieces from 18-million+ stock assets, gets an AI narrator hooked up, and stitches them into a cohesive video viewing package. Of Pictory’s main functions, the link-to-video is the primary one that the average content marketer uses on occasion to create, say, a YouTube-able visual version of a blog post. The format it produces—basically, a well-timed set of video-illustrated images and stock video clips—takes minutes and is nearly ready for prime time on social media. PPT to Video, as you’d imagine, allows marketers to turn slides into videos, and Edit via Text mode provides a surprisingly intuitive way to trim your recordings simply by editing the transcript, without ever touching the timeline. If you are willing to shell out for premium, you get access to the ElevenLabs (noticeably more realistic than Pictory’s standard IA voice narration) narrations. One genuine area where the software falls short is artistic control. Pictory makes the decisions as to which clips will represent each bit of scene narration, and frankly, these tend toward generic. When you feed it something conceptual or visual oddity, it tends to pair with, in my experience, content that feels completely unrelated. Having said all this, in terms of actual time savings for any kind of content team looking to do information videos on a regular basis from already written content, they begin from session one.
