AI image generators, especially the best ones that can generate anything you tell them to with relative confidence, aren’t always good at rendering text on an image. They might sort of figure out that it is text, but it’s often garbled, misaligned, or utterly unreadable—exactly the sort of result that would give anyone with a functioning vision a seizure. Ideogram built its identity as the one AI image generator that wasn’t rubbish with text on images.
Since its launch, text-rendering has always been Ideogram’s forte, and a new major upgrade—version 4.0, launched in 2026—only widened the gap.
Now signs that require the ability to accurately include a specific word; menu boards where the prices must actually be in the correct numerical and currency format; and logo designs featuring clear and correctly formed letters are now possible to do with much more success in Ideogram than its competitors. That has earned Ideogram a slot at the top for brands trying to generate mock advertisements with a word in their tag, brands and designers trying to get the text placement in packaging prototypes just so, and social media marketers using text and copy. Even as it improved at text, the photographic output on Ideogram 4.0 was improved enough that in direct comparison with general-purpose AI image generators, the differences are almost negligible regarding portraits or product shots. If you need more than one image, the Canvas tool allows for multiple-image design compositions while keeping with Ideogram’s strength of text rendering.
A negative input option to exclude desired elements from an output image is another plus. 10 images per day isn’t much to evaluate in the tool, but it is at least sufficient to test basic functionality.
If what you are after is a painterly or very artistic result and you are not really interested in the text component of images, Midjourney remains far more proficient and reliable for visually remarkable and cohesive results than Ideogram and other image generators.
