When Google's Gemini team decides to focus on nothing but image generation, you get Imagen. It just so happens to release Imagen 4 (2025) and the Ultra tier (2026) in 2025 and 2026, respectively. They deliver such photo-realistic output and text quality that they're going toe-to-toe with FLUX.2 and Ideogram 4.0 for the best of the best spots on independent benchmarks. Not to mention, their 2026 benchmark reviews indicated that text quality was a best-in-class result comparable to that of Ideogram. Text accuracy continues to be one of the toughest hurdles to overcome in image generation, which is why this stands out. 2026 sees multiple ways for you to interact with Google's advanced AI: For those willing to subscribe to Gemini Advanced ($19.99/month), you can generate images within the standard Gemini chat interface. If your workplace already has a Google Workspace subscription, you'll find image generation available within Google Slides and Docs. Meanwhile, developers have access to the Imagen API via Google Cloud's Vertex AI, with pricing for the fast tier averaging around $.02/image, and the free ImageFX tool within labs. Google allows for experimenting at home. There are some honest downsides, though: Access to Imagen isn't quite as simple as a standalone Adobe Firefly or Midjourney setup. Most access paths are bundled into Google products and are not intended for individual use with an image-centric subscription. While creative professionals hoping image generation will become their main tool might look at more dedicated solutions, the ability for Google Workspace teams or developers on Cloud infrastructure to incorporate the highest-tier models into their existing ecosystem without adding another vendors to your procurement, is a killer benefit.
