Fotor falls nicely into a happy middle ground that serves a lot of people well. It's not trying to be Photoshop on steroids nor trying to best Canva in terms of templates, but a neat browser-based editor that works without much of a learning curve – it neatly bundles AI photo enhancement, portrait retouching, background removal and image generation. Its AI Enhance is a one-click button that analyses your image and auto-tweaks exposure, colour, sharpness, and contrast so most of the basic touch-up jobs are done in one swipe. Portrait retouching is done with sliders for smoothing skin, removing blemishes, whitening teeth, and enhancing eyes, and the results look good with minimal additional work. The background removal is surprisingly competent with most standard product photography and headshot-like pictures (it's not quite Remove.bg with highly fiddly edges, though). An AI image generator right within the editor also allows for instant creation of pictures from prompts and is a convenient inclusion for content makers switching between editing pictures they already have and generating new ones. Its free offering is quite usable, limited rather than a paywall with daily allowances to give you a proper go. Pro, meanwhile, costs $8.99 a month, and, the honest truth is, each of Fotor's individual tools is a bit outclassed by individual offerings – the background removal isn't Remove. BG and the design tools aren't Canva – but for anyone who wants to have their basis somewhat covered for a variety of tasks without signing up to half a dozen services, Fotor is an honest middle ground.
