When I edit video traditionally, I need to scrub the timeline back and forth until I can find the precise second someone was speaking, then fix the verbal blooper. With Descript, I’m asked to simply remove the row of words that the person I was speaking with said, and Descript automatically fixes the audio along with it. With most interview- or lecture- or training-session-based media (aka anything content where people are doing 90%+ talking), this feature would result in about 60%-70% of the edit time. The software comes complete with filler-word removal through their Underlord A.I., automated eye tracking and silencing, Studio Sound cleans up any mic audio for clear quality, Overdub lets you remove one spoken word from any session by adding new audio cloned from the person’s voice into it as needed. You buy by AI minute on all different monthly rates per Descript’s subscription tiers; they call theirs credits. On an honest note, Descript isn’t a replacement when it’s all said and done. If you are editing a project that has motion graphics or multi-cam workflows or if color grading is a crucial part, then tools like Da Vinci, Premiere, or similar are best served. However, for what was designed, Descript cuts the editing time 60%-70% and will save you hours per session. Priced at just $24 for a month with their creator’s software, I’m hoping it’s going to be a huge win in the podcast and the YouTube spheres.
